Arborek Island

Accessible from Sorong via a 3-4 hour ferry ride to Waisai, followed by a 2-hour speedboat journey, the village boasts nine homestays and a dive center owned by local residents. Arborek is famous for its handcrafted Manta Ray hats made from pandan leaves, as well as its traditional dances performed by local children.

The Arborek people, are famous for their skill in crafting handcrafted hats made from pandan leaves. These hats are intricately woven to resemble the majestic shape of manta rays, reflecting the close connection between the villagers and the marine life surrounding their island home.


The art of creating Manta Ray hats has been passed down through generations, showcasing the cultural heritage and artistic prowess of the Arborek community.
